Much of South Louisiana was devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Fregonese Associates is developing a long-term recovery plan with accompanying strategic actions to provide a guiding framework for the Louisiana Recovery Authority, the planning and coordinating body tasked with overseeing the rebuilding of South Louisiana.
To facilitate the region's planning work, FA worked closely with a range of stakeholders including the Coastal Protection and Recovery Authority, elected leaders, Louisiana State University, parishes, cities, non-profit organizations and local citizens.
FA helped organize major stakeholder workshops, held throughout the region, designed to bring together a wealth of local knowledge to create strategies for recovery and growth. These workshops focused on planning for coastal protection and restoration; land use and transportation; and economic development.
The results of a large scale public input process will help define and create a decision making structure for rebuilding efforts to direct the investment and planning conducted by the Louisiana Recovery Authority. In addition, a series of strategic action plans will be adopted at the state, regional, and local government level.
