Exposition Line

The Exposition Line is the latest extension of Los Angeles' 62-station Metro Rail system with a scheduled completion date of 2010. The 8.5-mile Exposition Line will run from the existing Metro Rail station at 7th/Metro Center in downtown Los Angeles to a future station at Washington/National in Culver City.

Fregonese Associates provided the City of Los Angeles with a series of policy recommendations that can be used to stimulate economic incentives to build desirable infill development projects and meet the City's goals for five targeted station areas: Vermont, Western, Crenshaw, La Brea, and La Cienega. In addition to these recommendations, and because each station area has many unique characteristics, specific public policy recommendations for each individual station area were also developed. All of the policy changes are designed to improve the financial feasibility of the prototype infill developments analyzed in this study and allow developers to create a variety of product types designed to appeal to future residents, companies, and retailers that would locate in close proximity to light rail.

The Exposition Line presents opportunities for increased connectivity between different parts of the city; economic development through new jobs and businesses; compact, walkable transit-oriented development; and an increase in mixed-use development and higher residential densities. Achieving these goals will help the region realize the Southern California Association of Governments' (SCAG) Compass Growth Vision.
