Damascus is the newest city in Oregon, located just a short drive away from Portland in a scenic and rural area. It was established in 2002 when Metro, the regional government in the Portland area, brought the land into the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB).
Oregon state law requires that newly incorporated cities create comprehensive plans. Fregonese Associates assisted the city of Damascus with creating a vision for the city that would pave the way to an effective comprehensive plan. The visioning effort involved intensive public outreach that engaged hundreds of citizens. Workshops included coffee klatches and summer socials which allowed everyone to give input on the kinds of developments that made sense for their new town. This information will guide the development of the Damascus comprehensive plan.
