Chicago Metropolis 2020

Chicago, Illinois

Fregonese Associates was hired by the private, non-profit Chicago Metropolis 2020 organization to help shape the Chicago region's future—a future full of changes, with 1.5 million additional people and 800,000 new jobs expected by 2030. The historic and noteworthy Plan of Chicago was developed by Daniel Burnham in 1909 but had not been updated since then. Fregonese Associates and Chicago Metropolis 2020 worked together to update the plan and to create strong, workable solutions for the region as it grows.

Fregonese Associates developed a computer-based model of the region that allows citizens and businesses to see the effects of different growth strategies. FA led workshops involving approximately 1,000 business, civic, governmental leaders and the general public in crafting an alternative future for the Region. Using the input from the workshops and the model as a means to test ideas, FA crafted the Metropolis Plan for 2030 and a strategy for implementing the concepts it represents. The project involved a multi-media press campaign ranging from Newsletters, websites, and posters aimed at increasing support for the goals of Chicago Metropolis 2020 as embodied in the Metropolis Plan.

Chicago Metropolis 2020 earned the prestigious 2004 Daniel Burnham Award for it's visionary effort that lead to enhanced quality of life and greater opportunity for all who live in the Chicago metropolitan area.
