The Big Look

Oregon Task Force on Land Use Planning

Oregon is well known for its landmark statewide planning program created in 1973. Created through legislative action, this 10-member task force was charged with conducting a three year comprehensive review of Oregon's statewide planning program. Fregonese Associates was part of the consultant team to the Oregon Task Force on Land Use planning, or the “Big Look Task Force.” The task force and consultant team focused on the preservation of farm and forest lands, as well as land use issues specific to urbanized areas.

Our team provided day-to-day project management assistance and conducted land use and economic research for the task force. Additionally, Fregonese Associates acted as a liaison to stakeholder groups and designed a statewide outreach effort, including a documentary video, an interactive website, town halls, and survey materials which was carried out in Summer 2008.

In January 2009 the Task Force issued its final report which included a set of recommended changes to the land use system.

"The Big Look: Examining Oregon's Land Use Laws"

This video was screened at all Big Look town halls during the course of the process. It was also provided to stakeholders for use in their local "meetings-in-a-box" gatherings.
