Fregonese Associates assisted the City of Arlington in the creation and adoption of a Downtown Master Plan. Arlington certainly had the potential to undergo a successful revitalization of its downtown - something many other communities have accomplished during the last decade. With a strong physical core, Downtown Arlington was well positioned to design a downtown that functions as a vital business and civic center, bustling with activity and investment.

The Downtown Plan represented a link between current planning and the community's future vision for downtown. It emphasized short-term objectives and contained specific development policies and recommendations for the downtown area. By applying the priorities and goals of the community, the downtown plan was created to guide future development of the city center.

One of the main objectives of this Master Plan was to study and organize several recent planning efforts to create a coordinated plan and a comprehensive set of strategies for implementation. This inclusive document described, in detail, the strategic steps to action for Downtown Arlington.

The plan utilized districts to identify development goals tailored to the unique needs of the multiple districts within Arlington's downtown. The Downtown Plan involved a redevelopment opportunities analysis, a study of the interface between transportation and land uses in the downtown area, and will lead to code changes and street design standards for Arlington's core.

This Master Plan was the result of synthesis of past plans and public workshops that envision a downtown that functions as a center of community business and culture. The past plans, current knowledge and information, as well as strong public input will make this vision a reality.
